To Current and Former Elders
by Styxx ini wanted to say a few things to current and former elders.
it was really a post by alltimejeff on 10/1/2009 that got me thinking about this and i address a few things that he says here.
but i dont want to single him out because i really think that he is typical of many, and he did in fact apologize for his actions at the end of his post.

Could The Tragic Death of Our First Child Be Why My Wife is Still a JW?
by lifelong humanist inafter 6 years since i dad myself, it has just dawned on me today, that my jw wife is (probably) only still involved with her jw religion because of her religious belief in a resurrection back to life on a 'paradise earth'!.
let me please explain - our first child was a wee girl, born in 1972. her name was joanna.
she was a great, intelligent, healthy child and we were both proud parents with a marvellous hope - a 'jw' certified version of the future ahead of us!.

LH sorry to hear you lost your beloved daughter - it's hard to imagine getting over that heartbreak.
I was wondering the same thing myself this week about an old girlfriend. Her dad, who she was extremely close to, died a few years ago of mesothelioma. She was completely devastated and just lives for the day when she will see him again. I think this does play a part, subconsciously, in her burying her head in the sand by refusing to confront the facts about her religion. But it's not the only factor here - I think it's a complicated web of reasons that keeps a person in. If a person gets to a state where they could be open to looking at the facts, this all unravels very quickly.
The trouble then is dealing with the grief all over again if you start to realise it's very likely we wont see our lost loved ones again (which is what I struggle with often). It does make the here and now more precious though.

UK Assembly food
by highdose ini notice that all our us freinds are posting about their food so what about the uk version?.
london cystal place:.
anyone remember the danish pasties?

Fond memories of both those places - the meal tickets and choosing what to have was the highlight of the assembly for me LOL. My best memories were of the bacon butties at Dorking and the donuts.
I think the real reason the dubs are losing so many members these days is the lack of food together with the camaraderie of food service......
BTW - you have a PM

Question for believers: How does God set priorities?
by sir82 inwhile waiting for the bus yesterday, i overheard (wasn't trying - but due to his volume, impossible to avoid) a guy on his cell phone talking to someone about his likely imminent dismissal from his employment.. but he then went on to say that he had full confidence that god would take care of him, and he wasn't worried at all about finding new employment.. then i got home, watched the news, and found out that 4 million kenyans are in danger of starving to death because of a year-long drought there.. so i got to thinking - how exactly does god set priorities?.
the guy at the bus stop is not the first christian i've heard express his confidence that god chooses to intervene and help in the lives of individual believers.
he saves them from car wrecks, he helps them find jobs, he lends some sort of invisible emotional support to help them cope with the death of a child, and so on.. on the other hand, millions of people suffer excruciating pain for months or years before finally dying covered in mud with flies crawling on them - no relief from god in sight.. why does god help one middle-aged guy who's never been hungry in his life find a new job in time so that he doesn't miss his $3000 mortgage payment, but not send a little rain to help a land where millions of people are already living in misery and filth?.

If you answered a question 'how does god set priorities' with anything other than 'he ain't there' you are speaking for god.
Sorry to be the bearer of obvious news, but your shell game has been around for a while.
EDIT - more obvious news just in - this was Besty using MY computer.....get your own.....

Sisters crying in the kitchen/lobby
by highdose inyears ago i was at the revamp of a kingdom hall.
one of the sisters told me that since they got rid of the kitchen it was so much better, becuase there were always sisters out there crying!
and now they have no place to go, so they just have to stay in the hall and listen to the meeting!.

I only remember one sister in our hall who every time the subject of disfellowshipping was mentioned would be found out in the back lobby/restroom sobbing. She had two daughters that were df'd and that had no intention of ever coming back. I used to go out and give her a hug but never knew what to say (especially as I never agreed withDF'ing/shunning and never believed someone was without hope, but she completely believed in it all) - she was one of the nicest sisters in the cong, it was horrible to see her so upset.
